Reflection is the phenomenon in which light, sound and electromagnetic waves change direction when they strike a surface. Indirect consequence, impact – the appearance of the image of an object on a smooth and shiny surface. The manifestation of feelings and thoughts in a way that is vivid and true as through a mirror.

The reflection, constant or fleeting, gives us back an image of ourselves or the world around us. It is an opportunity to redefine the boundaries of space, time, feelings, desires, plans, preferences and choices that gives the suspicion of renegotiation of our identity.

Reflection can redefine the geography of a space as a place of meeting or parting, with ourselves or with others, in time synchronic and at the same time timeless, where things can turn for the better or for the worse, as it carries the projection of desires and fears that we give to our image or to the image of the world. We can face it with the cold logic of a surgeon or with the curiosity of the explorer of an unknown yet familiar land, where problems of relationships can be raised, not just of ourselves where we can be sweet or compassionate or again be faced with the monster we hide inside…

It is the third year that the Association of Friends of Letters and Arts of Kavala organizes the Artistic May, an event that aspires to become an institution in Kavala. It is a contemporary art exhibition entitled Reflections. The approximately 20 participating artists are, in the vast majority, graduates of Fine Arts schools, aged 30-40, that is, in their most productive artistic period, a fact that is reflected in the high level of the exhibition.

The Palladio multipurpose hall, which has been beautifully designed like a gallery to host the exhibition, came at the right time to fill the city’s deficit in exhibition spaces for visual arts. As organizers of the exhibition, we feel proud of this exhibition and consider it as one of the most important visual events that have happened in our city”, says Diamantis Staggidis, head of the visual department of the Association of Friends of Letters and Arts of Kavala.
